MPS Reduces Rates

We are pleased to announce a decrease in delivery rates for our customers. This decrease, while modest, is welcome news at a time when energy costs are rising.

MPS will reduce electricity rates for all customer classes by an average of 1.45% on the delivery portion of the electricity bill effective July 1, 2008, through June, 2009, when the annual formula rate is readjusted.  The total cost of electricity for a residential customer (Rate A and A1) is comprised of $.082550 for delivery and .085385 for supply for a total of approximately $.167935 per kilowatt hour.  Typical residential customers using 500 kilowatt hours per month will see an approximate monthly decrease on their delivery portion from $41.82 to $41.28.  Officials explain that the lower rates are a result of more customers using the transmission system.  MPS has been successful in keeping delivery rates fairly stable over the last few years.  Electricity is generated by independent power producers, provided to you by independent suppliers, and delivered to you by MPS, the transmission and distribution utility serving over 36,000 customer accounts in northern Maine.  We are pleased to pass on the savings to you.  This decease meets the ongoing commitment to provide reliable service at the most affordable rate possible. Effective July 1, 2008, MPS will decrease electricity delivery rates by an average of 1.45%. The decrease will result in the following customer class decreases to the 2008 total delivery rates:
