Supplier Licensing

New Suppliers

If you are a provider of electricity interested in doing business in our service area, there are three important processes you must complete.

First, you must be licensed by the state of Maine.

Second, you must contact Northern Maine Independent System Administrator (“NMISA”) for a company identification number and Load Asset Account number.

Third, you must be certified by Maine Public Service Company (“MPS”) to supply electricity through our system.

Licensing

If you are interested in becoming licensed in the state of Maine to provide energy to retail customers, you should first visit the Maine Public Utilities Commission (MPUC):

http://www.maine.gov/mpuc/industries/electricity/ElectricSupplier/ch305web.htm.

A list of energy suppliers currently licensed in the state of Maine can be found at:

http://www.maine.gov/mpuc/industries/electricity/ElectricSupplier/ceplist.htm.

A supplier training schedule has been created for energy suppliers and can be found at:

ning.html.

The MPUC has an entire site set up for energy suppliers at

Certification

If you are interested in becoming a MPS certified supplier, you must first become licensed by the state of Maine. Then, you must successfully complete Maine´s Electronic Business Transactions (“EBT”) supplier training program. Finally, you will need to complete MPS´s Electronic Data Interchange (“EDI”) test plan (see below).
